JAMES C. CURVEY ’57 VSB EXPANDS EXISTING SCHOLARSHIP WITH GIFT OF $750,000 TO SUPPORT BREWSTER ACADEMY STUDENTS ATTENDING VILLANOVA

Curvey

Former member of Villanova’s Board of Trustees James C. Curvey ’57 VSB has made an additional gift of $750,000 to expand opportunities for students from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH, to attend Villanova through the James C. Curvey Endowed Scholarship.

His latest commitment—which brings the Curvey family’s total giving in scholarship support to more than $7.1 million—is just one of the many investments that emphasizes the family’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities for new generations of Villanova students.

This additional gift will expand scholarship support from one Brewster Academy graduate to attend Villanova every year to two graduates. As of March 2026, four Brewster Academy graduates have been Curvey Scholars at Villanova.

The Curvey family’s investment in financial aid advances a central priority of Espiritus Nova: The Campaign for Villanova University—to raise $300 million toward the goal of meeting 100 percent of demonstrated need for undergraduate students, so that all who are called to this community, regardless of socioeconomic status, can become a part of it.

As a student from Schuylkill County—part of the Coal Region in northeast Pennsylvania—Curvey experienced firsthand the transformative power of higher education. Inspired by the pivotal role Villanova played in his life’s journey, he established the Curvey Scholarship in 1999 to provide one student from his hometown of Mahanoy City, Pa., with a significant grant to attend Villanova.

Over the past 27 years, the program has steadily grown, and it currently supports four students annually from Schuylkill County. With this latest program expansion, two students from Brewster Academy for each entering class will be awarded scholarships. As longtime summer residents of New Hampshire’s Lakes Region, the Curvey family became deeply invested in creating opportunities for Brewster Academy—where Curvey also served as a member of the Board of Trustees—and its surrounding communities.

That commitment began at Brewster in 2009 with the creation of the Curvey Scholars Program, which provides students from Wolfeboro and neighboring towns the opportunity to attend the Academy—an experience that might otherwise be out of reach for many of them. Curvey further expanded the program’s impact by establishing the Curvey Fellowships at Brewster, modeled after the Curvey Fellowships at Villanova.

Curvey Scholars at both Brewster and Villanova are encouraged to participate in the fellowship program, which enables Brewster students to travel throughout the US and Villanova students to travel internationally. Villanova’s Curvey Fellows have visited 60 countries and seven continents since the program’s inception.

This latest investment in scholarship support not only strengthens the enduring partnership between Brewster Academy and Villanova University, but also advances the Curvey family’s legacy of opening doors for students and creating pathways to opportunity. In doing so, it ensures that future generations of students will have access to a Villanova education.
