VIDEO CONSENT

Make every attempt to ensure that you have the rights to use the content that you feature in your video. This includes rights to use images, people, music/sounds, quotes or intellectual property, etc.

Consent Requirements and Copyright Considerations

Waivers

Any Villanova student, faculty, staff, alumni, etc. who is going to be featured in a video must sign a waiver consenting to the use of their likeness in Villanova materials. According to the Retention and Management of University Records Policy, all photo and video waivers should be retained for a period of five years.

Fill out the Photography and Recording Consent and Release Form and send a copy to the Villanova Marketing team when completed and signed.

Copyright, Intellectual Property and other Rights Management or Licensing:

If your video contains non-public domain music or footage, you run the risk of it being flagged for copyright infringement or exposing the University to legal penalties or liability. YouTube and Facebook are two platforms where this is a concern; your audio/video may be muted and/or your video can be taken down:

  • If your video is being produced by UNIT, they have an approved database of licensed musical selections that can be selected for your video.
  • If you or an outside company are producing, please ensure that the proper usage rights are obtained.

UTS is also a good source of information for other risks that could get your content/video flagged on YouTube and Vimeo. Contact UTS for more information.
