EXTERNSHIPS

The Scarpa Center, in conjunction with Villanova Law's externship program, coordinates placements that align with the Where Law Meets Business philosophy. 

Villanova Law externships provide students with the opportunity to observe and work directly with an experienced legal practitioner in a real-world learning environment. Students work under the guidance of an on-site supervising attorney, allowing them to observe and work with an expert gaining hands-on legal experience.

SCARPA FELLOWS

The Scarpa Fellows are committed to raising awareness of the Scarpa Center and its mission while furthering the Charles Widger School of Law philosophy, Where Law Meets Business.

Each Fellow is expected to provide leadership to the Entrepreneurship Law Society, maintain and expand digital and social media presence, assist in the development and execution of the Scarpa Center events, organize and oversee student competitions, interface with other schools, departments, organizations across Villanova and beyond, and provide leadership and research on established law and topical entrepreneurial issues.

Rohit Bachani ’28 is from New Jersey. He graduated from Boston College in 2019 with a BS in operations management and political science. Prior to law school, Rohit worked in credit risk management at Goldman Sachs and Coinbase. In those roles, he underwrote a variety of transactions involving investment firms, high-net-worth individuals, and corporate clients.

At Villanova Law, Rohit is a teaching assistant for civil procedure and co-editor-in-chief of the Forum on Entrepreneurship & Law blog. He served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Joel H. Slomsky during summer 2026 and is serving as a judicial extern for the Honorable Michael A. Shipp during fall 2026.

Kenedie Barnhart ’27 is from Columbus, Ohio. She graduated from Auburn University in 2024 with a bachelor of arts in law and justice. At Villanova Law, Barnhart has pursued a variety of professional interests. She externed at the Bucks County Public Defender's Office and worked as a student attorney in the Caritas Clemency Clinic representing incarcerated individuals. She also served as a summer associate with Richards, Layton & Finger in 2026, working in the corporate litigation and bankruptcy & corporate restructuring departments. Barnhart is vice president of the Criminal Law Society and served as a research assistant for Professor Padilla-Babilonia in 2025. Following graduation, she will begin her career as an associate at Richards, Layton & Finger.

Caroline Bernhardt ’28 is from Milmay, New Jersey. She graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University-New Brunswick with a major in political science and minors in human resource management and labor studies. This past summer, she interned with the division of law at the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, where she worked on labor and employment matters. She currently serves as an extern at Zarwin Baum in Philadelphia, where she looks forward to further developing her practical legal skills.

At Villanova Law, Bernhardt studied international entrepreneurship in the fashion industry in Milan, Italy. She also serves as a blog writer for the Forum on Entrepreneurship & Law.

Raised in an entrepreneurial family, Bernhardt developed an early interest in entrepreneurship and is eager to explore the ways in which law shapes and supports innovation and creative industries.

Isaiah Carter ’28 is from Delaware. He graduated from Liberty University with a BS in law & policy, concentrating in contracts and government regulation. Isaiah has previously interned in the Office of United States Senator Christopher A. Coons of Delaware. At Villanova Law, Isaiah is involved in the Corporate Law Society and the St. Thomas More Society.

Aryn Chartock ’28 is from Huntingdon Valley, PA. She graduated from Syracuse University in 2025 with a bachelor of arts in policy studies, psychology, political philosophy, and a minor in child and family policy studies. 

At Villanova Law, Chartock has pursued a variety of professional and academic experiences as an aspiring first-generation attorney. She has worked as a law clerk for Martine, Katz Scanlon & Schimmel and currently externs at Clarke Gallagher Barbiero Amuso & Glassman Law. 

Chartock is a member of the Scarpa Corporate Negotiation Team, a staff writer on the Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal, an executive board member of the Entrepreneurship Law Society, co-associate editor of the Corporate Law Blog and 2L representative for the First-Generation Lawyers Group. She looks forward to deepening her involvement with the Scarpa Center as a Scarpa Fellow, and is eager to explore how creative legal thinking can better support and empower modern entrepreneurs and changemakers.

Ava Dressendofer ’28 is a New Jersey native and a 2025 graduate of Montclair State University, where she earned a BA in jurisprudence, law and society. At Villanova Law, Ava serves as vice president of the Student Bar Association. She is also the founder and CEO of Mi Cielo Charm Bar LLC, where she leads a team of young entrepreneurs.

Prior to law school, Ava worked as a benefits advisor for Aflac, where she ranked #1 in the country in sales in 2021. She also gained valuable legal experience as a legal assistant at Harwood Lloyd LLP and as an intern with Legal Services of Northwest Jersey. Most recently, Ava spent the summer interning with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey.

Through her involvement with the Scarpa Center for Law & Entrepreneurship, Ava hopes to make an impact at the intersection of law and business by helping foster innovation, supporting aspiring entrepreneurs, and creating opportunities for the next generation of business-minded legal professionals.

Olivia Gang ’28 is from New Jersey. She graduated from Villanova University School of Business in 2023 with a bachelor of business administration in business analytics and digital marketing. Gang is the deputy editor of The National Law Review’s AI & the Law newsletter, a National Law Review–Wickard Legal AI Pathways Fellow, and a Charles Widger Leadership Scholar. She also serves as vice president of the Emerging Technology Legal Society and social media coordinator for the Intellectual Property Society.

During the summer of 2026, Gang served as a legal AI analyst at Wickard.AI. In fall 2026, Gang is externing with Troutman Pepper Locke LLP in the firm’s Berwyn office. Additionally, she will join Venable LLP as a 2027 summer associate in the firm’s New York office.

Paul Giordano III ’28 is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in 2021. He then graduated magna cum laude from Villanova University in 2025 with a bachelor of business administration. While attending the Villanova School of Business, he completed a major in finance and a minor in business law & corporate governance. Paul’s passion for business began while working alongside his family at its wholesale fruit and produce company, where he gained insight into the ways in which business and law intersect. Through this, he gained firsthand experience in business operations while helping coordinate donations for the distribution of more than 300,000 meals each year to Philadelphia residents experiencing food insecurity.

At Villanova Law, Paul also serves as the vice president of funds for the Corporate Law Society, treasurer of the Villanova Italian-American Legal Organization, secretary of the First Generation Lawyers Group, external outreach chair of the Real Estate Law Society, elections chair of the Honor Board, 2L representative of the Entrepreneurship Law Society and a student ambassador for the admissions office.

This past summer, Paul served as a law clerk at Bellwoar Kelly, LLP, gaining experience in appellate briefing, motion practice, deposition preparation and complex research involving administrative, constitutional, employment, immigration and civil rights matters.

Paul’s lifelong exposure to entrepreneurship through his family’s Philadelphia business has shaped his growing interest to pursue a career in corporate law, specifically mergers and acquisitions. As a Scarpa Fellow, he aspires to apply his finance background and business acumen to deepen his understanding of how legal strategy can shape entrepreneurial growth and decision-making.

Keegan Graham ’28 is from Cincinnati, Ohio. Graham graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor of arts in international relations, concentrating on international rrade. At Villanova, Graham is pursuing a joint JD/MBA with a specialization in finance. He currently serves as a student fellow with the John F. Scarpa Center for Entrepreneurship and the Villanova Venture Capital Fund, where he applies legal and financial analysis to evaluate early-stage companies, conduct due diligence and develop investment recommendations.

This fall, Graham will join UGI Corporation as a legal extern, where he will conduct legal research and assist attorneys on matters involving securities, corporate governance, debt finance, contracts and employment. Previously, he served as a Judicial Extern for Judge Crystal Bryant Powell of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, where he conducted legal research and drafted memoranda addressing criminal procedure, evidentiary issues and constitutional claims. Following graduation, Graham intends to pursue a career in corporate transactional law.

Cole Hammel ’28 is from Oaks, Pennsylvania. Hammel graduated from Saint Joseph’s University with a bachelor of science in finance and accounting. Before attending Villanova Charles Widger School of Law, Hammel worked in PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Restructuring practice, advising Fortune 500 and multinational clients on complex cross-border tax planning and restructuring, including inbound and outbound transactions, value chain transformation, intellectual property and legal entity optimization, joint venture structuring and modeling the global effective tax rate implications of strategic transactions and restructurings.

At Villanova Law, Hammel is pursuing a joint JD/MBA through the Reza Taleghani JD/MBA Program. He previously served as a blog writer for the Corporate Law Society and currently serves as an associate editor of the Corporate Law Society Blog, a blog writer for the Forum on Entrepreneurship & Law, a Scarpa Fellow and a student fellow with the Villanova Venture Capital Fund.

This past summer, Hammel completed a judicial internship with the Honorable Karen Spencer Marston of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. Next summer, he will join Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP as a summer associate in its corporate business transactions practice. Following graduation, Hammel plans to pursue a career in corporate transactional law.

Kaitlyn Henning ’28 is from Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Colgate University in 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in international relations. At Villanova Law, Henning has pursued a variety of professional and academic experiences. In her first year at Villanova Law, Henning served on the Dean’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Council and worked at HomansPeck LLC in Wayne, PA, exploring labor and employment law. Now in her second year, Henning is a Scarpa Center for Entrepreneurship and Law Fellow as well as a Leadership Fellow. Henning is also externing with the Villanova Law Institute to Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation this semester and is looking forward to interning next summer at Cozen O’Connor in Philadelphia.

Minsoo Jeon ’28 is from the Philadelphia area. He earned a bachelor of science in interdisciplinary studies from Drexel University, with a triple minor in philosophy, business administration and real estate development and management.

Prior to law school, Minsoo founded Plot Holders LLC, a real estate investment firm through which he raised and managed over $1.5 million to close more than forty transactions across several jurisdictions. Through this venture, he negotiated over 100 purchase and partnership agreements, led cross-functional teams through the land development process, and built and managed a five-member full-time operations team.

At Villanova Law, Minsoo is a Charles Widger Leadership Scholar. He serves as co-editor-in-chief of the Forum on Entrepreneurship and Law and treasurer of the Real Estate Law Society. In 2026, he worked as a summer legal fellow at Comcast Corporation. In 2027, he will join Ice Miller LLP as an M&A summer associate in Philadelphia. His professional interests lie at the intersection of law, corporate transactions, real estate development and entrepreneurship.

Mary Grace Kerns ’28 is from West Chester, Pennsylvania. She is a 2025 graduate of Syracuse University in Upstate New York, where she studied communication and rhetorical studies and entrepreneurship. While at Syracuse, Mary Grace worked with the athletic communications department, assisting with coverage of Syracuse’s athletes and compiling and reporting relevant statistics. She also served as a columnist for the school newspaper, The Daily Orange, where she developed her passion for persuasive writing and reporting on nuanced topics.

During her 1L year at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, Mary Grace became involved with the Entrepreneurship Law Society as a blog writer and participated in the 2026 Milan Study Abroad Program with fellow law students. Following her 1L year, she spent the summer as a judicial intern for a judge on the Chester County Court of Common Pleas, gaining valuable experience in the civil litigation process. She also works as a research assistant to criminal law Professor Michelle Madden Dempsey.

Mary Grace plans to pursue a career in litigation but maintains a strong interest in business startups, entrepreneurship, and strategic partnerships.

Jordan J. Lewis ’28 is from Villanova, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Maryland – College Park with a bachelor of arts in criminology and criminal justice.  Jordan is a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, rooting for all four major sports teams in the city, and in his free time, he loves playing golf. 

At Villanova Law, Jordan has pursued a wide range of professional and extracurricular experiences. This past summer, he served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Craig Levin of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. On campus, Jordan is actively involved in the Student Bar Association, where he serves as alumni relations chair. He is also the co-events chair of the Jewish Law Students Association and a member of Villanova’s Basketball Sports Law Negotiation Team. After graduation, Jordan plans to pursue a career in litigation while incorporating entrepreneurship and innovation into his professional work.

Jordan became a Scarpa Fellow to contribute to the Center’s mission and engage more deeply with legal issues at the intersection of law, business, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He wholeheartedly embraces the Center’s guiding principle, Where Law Meets Business, and is eager to help plan and host events that further its mission.

Sofia Licata ’28 is from Long Island, New York. She graduated from Villanova University in 2025 with a bachelor of arts in political science and communication and a minor in business law.

At Villanova Law, Licata has pursued her interests in family law, litigation and entrepreneurship. For the past two years, she has worked at a family law firm whose founding partners are also entrepreneurs and operate their own Continuing Legal Education (CLE) company. Through this experience, she has gained exposure to both the practice of family law and the business side of the legal profession.

Licata serves as co-event chair of the Entrepreneurship Law Society and as the 2L representative for the Family Law Society. She is also a member of the Villanova Law National Trial Team and the VIALO Club.

Emmeline Lignowski ’28 is from Wynnewood, PA. She graduated with honors from College of the Holy Cross in 2024 with a BA in economics and music. Her honors thesis studied the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Broadway theatre.

In the summer of 2026, Emmeline completed a judicial externship with the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas, Civil Section. In addition to being a Scarpa Fellow, she currently serves as a staff writer on Villanova’s Jeffrey S. Moorad Sports Law Journal, treasurer of the Entertainment and Media Law Society, social chair of the St. Thomas More Society and a 2L representative for the Entrepreneurship Law Society.

Megan Mollard ’27 is from Utah and graduated from Gonzaga University in 2024 with a bachelor of business administration, concentrating in law and public policy and minoring in political science. Her academic background and professional experiences have shaped a strong interest in the intersection of business and law. At Villanova Law, Mollard has gained practical experience across both private-practice and in-house legal settings. She previously worked at Gibson and Perkins PC and currently serves as an in-house legal intern at Quaker Houghton.

Mollard has also been actively involved in Villanova’s entrepreneurship and legal community. She has served as treasurer of the Entrepreneurship Law Society during both her 2L and 3L years and previously served as a contributing editor for the Forum on Entrepreneurship and Law during her 2L year. Through her academic, professional and extracurricular experiences, Mollard continues to explore the intersection of entrepreneurship, business and law.

John O’Connor ’28 is a JD candidate at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. He graduated from Boston College in 2021 with a bachelor of arts in English and a minor in accounting for finance. Prior to attending law school, O’Connor spent four years at UBS Financial Services, where he worked in the wealth management graduate talent program and later as a private equity partner program analyst.

At Villanova Law, O’Connor serves as vice president of the Villanova Tax Law Society and is a Scarpa Center for Entrepreneurship and Law Fellow. He also works as a research assistant to Professor of Practice Joan Arnold. During the summer of 2026, O’Connor served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Dominic Pileggi of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas, where he conducted legal research and analysis, drafted memoranda addressing criminal law issues, and gained practical insight into the judicial decision-making process.

Katie Oliver ’27 is from Northern Virginia. She graduated from Radford University with a bachelor of science in criminal justice in December 2022 and earned her master of arts in justice studies from the University of New Hampshire in 2024. Oliver was a Division I soccer player at both universities. At Villanova Law, Oliver serves as the executive editor of The Villanova Environmental Law Journal, Vol. XXXVIII. She is pursuing the Sports Law Concentration and is heavily involved in the Fashion Law Society, where she serves as secretary.

Oliver has developed a particular interest in the intersection of fashion, business and law. In May 2026, she studied abroad in Milan, Italy through Villanova Law and The John F. Scarpa Center for Entrepreneurship and Law's Legal Issues Facing International Entrepreneurs: Italy's Fashion Industry class. She has continued to expand her knowledge of the luxury and fashion industries through the Fashion Law Certificate program at the Italian Institute of Fashion Management.

Oliver is the Co-Founder of Stavélo, an elevated accessories brand connecting fashion and sport. In April 2026, she presented the brand at Villanova's Student Entrepreneurship Competition and earned second place. Through Stavélo, Oliver has been able to combine her background in athletics with her interests in fashion, entrepreneurship and the legal issues involved in building and growing a brand.

Nate Wartell ’28 is from Collegeville, PA. Nate graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a BA in political science, where he researched the effect of business transactions and bank lending on the economy in the wake of the 2008 Global Financial Crisis.

At Villanova Law, Nate is blending his prior research experience with corporate transactional law. He is particularly interested in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and emerging companies/venture capital (EC/VC) practice. Through the Scarpa Center, Nate is assisting in creating Villanova Venture Capital’s first fund and serving as a law student advisor to the Villanova Wildcat Fund.

This past summer, Nate worked in the legal department at Sila Services, a private equity-backed home services platform, where he helped Sila acquire a Virginia-based heating company. He also gained experience drafting board resolutions and redlining contracts with vendors and brokers. In 2027, Nate will join Troutman Pepper Locke LLP as a summer associate.

Garrett Whitton ’27 is from San Diego, California. He is a third-year student at Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law with a strong interest in the intersection of law and business. He is particularly interested in how lawyers can serve not only as legal advisors, but also as strategic partners who help businesses grow, navigate challenges and pursue new opportunities.

Garrett has gained legal experience at a law firm in San Diego, where he worked on a variety of litigation, regulatory and professional matters. He also has a passion for developing new ideas and exploring what it takes to turn them into successful ventures. He enjoys identifying opportunities, tinkering with business models, and considering the legal and practical challenges that arise when building something from the ground up.

Garrett became a Scarpa Fellow because the Center’s Where Law Meets Business philosophy closely reflects the way he hopes to approach his legal career. As a Fellow, he looks forward to supporting the Center’s events and student initiatives, connecting with business leaders and founders, and helping create opportunities for Villanova Law students to engage with the business community.

Outside the classroom, Garrett enjoys golfing, working out, reading history, philosophy, and classic literature and following sports. A San Diego native, he is an avid Padres fan and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Garrett Ziperstein ’27 is from Connecticut. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 2024 with a bachelor of arts in political science and world politics, with a minor in public policy. He is concurrently pursuing a master's degree in sport management at the University of Texas at Austin. Since enrolling at Villanova Law, Ziperstein has pursued professional and academic opportunities at the intersection of sports-entertainment and transactional corporate practice. He spent his 1L summer with Southern Methodist University as a compliance extern following the House Settlement's implementation and joined James Madison University as an NIL strategy extern during his 2L summer.

Ziperstein works during the school year as a legal extern for Premier Athlete Agency and Elemica, Inc., and will begin a role with the Villanova Women's Basketball Program as an NIL strategy extern during the fall. Ziperstein is a member of the Sports Law Negotiation Team, where he placed 3rd at Tulane's 2026 National Competition. He serves as 3L representative for the Entrepreneurship and Law Society, as well as the Entertainment and Media Law Society. Ziperstein has helped establish student involvement with the Villanova Venture Capital Fund, which he will join as a Scarpa Fellow during his 3L year.
