DUAL DEGREE AND JOINT PROGRAMS IN THEOLOGY
Dual Master’s Programs provide alternate, cost- and time-effective paths to earning two Villanova University degrees. Most may be completed in three years rather than the four years it would take to earn them separately. Some may be completed in just two years.
Our Joint Master's & Certificate Programs permit you to combine a master's degree with a non-degree certificate across disciplines in the Humanities and in the Social Sciences.
DUAL MASTER'S DEGREE PROGRAMS
In cooperation with the Graduate Program in Education and Counseling, we offer a dual master's degree in Theology and in Education. This program attracts students seeking careers as educators on the primary or secondary level, or in institutions of higher learning. Students will deepen their understanding of curriculum development, assessment, working with multicultural populations, and other aspects of education theory and practice.
We partnered with the Graduate Program in History to offer a dual master's degree program in Theology and History. The combined program provides a unique opportunity to students in theology who seek to understand and to explain the story of human experience. The program enables students to strengthen their analytical and interpretive skills and to advance their understanding of the historical contexts of religious thought, institutions, and faith traditions.
Together with the Graduate Program in Public Administration we offer a dual master's degree opportunity in Theology (MA) and Public Administration (MPA). The MPA is a fitting partner for our MA because it focuses on helping students develop the skills they need to become ethical, creative leaders in public service. Students explore how values from political, philosophical and religious traditions guide the actions of successful administrators in the public and private sectors.
The Master's in Theology and the Master's in Political Science can be completed in a specially designed dual degree program. It offers theology students qualifications in American government, contemporary domestic politics, international relations, comparative politics and political philosophy from both substantive/policy and scholarly/theoretical perspectives. Students will be able to better understand the interrelationships of politics and religion in the United States, in other countries and among nations.
We cooperated with the Graduate Program in English to offer a dual master's degree program in Theology and in English. In addition to theological studies, students explore literary texts produced from the medieval period to the present; become familiar with the major intellectual currents shaping the discipline of literary study today; develop refined interpretive skills; and study the primary texts in their historical, theoretical and critical contexts.
JOINT MASTER'S DEGREE & CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
We developed this program jointly with the Gender and Women Studies Program for students who wish to explore this interdisciplinary field. The Certificate allows you to enhance your studies with a deeper knowledge of GWS, which has transformed scholarship and challenged fundamental assumptions in the humanities, social and natural sciences, and the professions.
In partnership with the Graduate Program in History, we offer a joint Master of Arts in Theology degree with a Certificate in History. The program provides a unique opportunity to graduate students in theology who seek to advance their understanding of the historical contexts of religious thought, institutions, and faith traditions; and of historical research and methodology through graduate-level course work in history.
In cooperation with the Graduate Program in Education and Counseling, we offer a combined Master in Theology with a Certificate in Education. This program is designed for students seeking careers as educators on the primary or secondary level, or in institutions of higher learning. Students will deepen their understanding of curriculum development, assessment, working with multicultural populations, and other aspects of education theory and practice.
For graduate students interested in pursuing careers in community and faith-based organizations that operate both domestically and abroad, we offer the joint Master or Arts in Theology and Certificate in Nonprofit Management with the Department of Public Administration. The program trains students in the pragmatic skills needed for effective leadership, administration, and management while providing in-depth knowledge and experience in the various fields of theological inquiry.
Key Nonprofit Management courses include:
- MPA 8031 Financial Management
- MPA 8600 Effective Nonprofit Management
- MPA 8700 Fundraising for Nonprofit Organizations
- One Public Administration elective
You may combine the Master of Arts in Theology with our Certificate in Theological Studies or the Certificate in Interdisciplinary Theological Inquiry. We offer this program for students seeking to earn credit hours beyond the requirements for the master's degree. It attracts students interested in studying more for personal or professional reasons, for example, in preparation for teaching, ministerial work, or advanced graduate studies.
