RECYCLING

Reducing and reusing is one of the first steps in creating a more sustainable future for all. When waste reduction or reuse is not possible, recycling becomes an important next step to preventing pollution. Villanova engages in a number of initiatives aimed at preventing and disposing of waste.

Villanova began its recycling program in 1990 and has since recycled over 62 million pounds of material. In addition to recycling, Villanova has programs that divert waste from landfills and incineration, and specialty recycling programs for items that cannot be recycled using traditional methods. Through these initiatives, Villanova is able to foster a culture of sustainability in accordance with our Catholic Augustinian values.

ZERO WASTE INITIATIVE

As part of Villanova’s 2020-2030 Sustainability Plan, Villanova is committed towards pursuing Zero Waste—a way of redesigning a resource’s life cycle to create no or as little waste as possible. By utilizing waste reduction strategies in the pursuit of Zero Waste, we—as a community—can provide a more sustainable future. At the core of all sustainability activities is Villanova’s vision of protecting the environment for generations to come.

Consider evaluating potential purchases by answering the question: “Is this necessary or are there better options?” Asking this simple question can help eliminate waste before it’s generated.
