Villanova faculty can get involved in sustainability efforts on and off campus through our variety of organizations, workshops and initiatives centered around mindful consumption, sustainability best practices and learning how to make your labs and classrooms eco-friendly.

Strategic Initiative For Climate, Justice and Sustainability

The Villanova Strategic Initiative for Climate, Justice and Sustainability (SICJS) aims to further awareness and understanding of the environmental crisis that looms before humanity and earth, finding solutions to mitigate harm and create a more just and sustainable future. The Strategic Initiative supports existing academic centers and groups within Villanova and facilitates interdisciplinary work across colleges and departments. We aim to build a university-wide institute that fosters a uniquely Augustinian and Catholic approach to climate, justice and sustainability.

About the Initiative

Faculty Mentor Program

The Faculty Sustainability Colleague Program provides a list of faculty members who include sustainability topics in their courses and/or those who address sustainability topics in their research.

Sustainability Leadership Council

The Villanova Sustainability Leadership Council helps coordinate, support, advance and track Villanova’s sustainable practices and policies to create and maintain a greener campus and caring community.

Green Office Program

The Green Office program was created to expand sustainability engagement among employees by engaging faculty and staff in adopting environmental best practices in the workplace.

VILLANOVA RESEARCH CENTERS AND INSTITUTES

Center for Global Leadership

The Center for Global Leadership (CGL) was created to advance ethical and responsible global leadership for the betterment of business and society. Housed in the Villanova School of Business, the CGL is dedicated to promoting cross-cultural awareness, ethical international business relationships, and responsible global leadership.

Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) is a driver of scholastic, educational, and professional development opportunities for creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. IIE has a multidisciplinary focus and seeks to advance the University's strategy by fostering cross-college learning and embedding entrepreneurial thinking in Villanova's culture.

Center for Peace and Justice

The Center for Peace and Justice, an academic unit of the College of Arts and Sciences and a division of the Office for Mission and Ministry, is an interdisciplinary academic program, informed by the Catholic social tradition, that focuses on issues of social justice and peace. Their course offerings focus on the components of a moral and just society, alternative models or socially responsible resolution of injustice and conflict, and opportunities to learn the necessary skills for peacemaking.

Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems (VCRWS)

The Villanova Center for Resilient Water Systems is home to the Villanova Urban Stormwater Partnership, whose mission is to advance the evolving field of sustainable stormwater management and to foster the development of public and private partnerships through research. Current projects include a Bio Infiltration Traffic Island on West Campus, Stormwater Infrastructure at the Commons, a Delaware River Watershed Initiative, and several others.

Center for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Stewardship (CBEST)

The Center for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Stewardship (CBEST) seeks to promote research in biodiversity and ecosystem science with a focus on understanding ongoing changes in ecosystems, their component organisms, and the benefits they provide to society. CBEST faculty utilize ecosystem science-based research to simulate human-induced changes in temperatures, sea levels, and pollutants. CBEST faculty are also doing work using innovative genetic and imaging techniques to explore how species have evolved in response to climatic changes.
