Acclaimed Journalist and NBC’s TODAY Co-Anchor Craig Melvin to Deliver 2026 Commencement Address
Villanova University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, announced that acclaimed journalist and NBC’s TODAY co-anchor Craig Melvin will deliver the Commencement address for the Class of 2026. Melvin will also receive the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. The University’s 183rd Commencement ceremony will take place Tuesday, May 19, at 2:30 p.m. in Villanova Stadium.
Civitas Dei Medal to be Presented to Peter Phan, PhD, DPhil, STD
Villanova University will award the 2026 Civitas Dei Medal to Peter C. Phan, PhD, DPhil, STD, distinguished scholar of Catholic social thought and world Christianity. The Civitas Dei Medal honors Catholics who have made exemplary contributions to the Catholic intellectual tradition and the pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness.
Villanova University to Host “Pope Leo @ One: Augustinian, Pastoral, Prophetic”
Villanova University will host a panel discussion, “Pope Leo @ One: Augustinian, Pastoral, Prophetic,” on Tuesday, April 28. Marking the first anniversary of Pope Leo XIV’s election, the event will explore the early direction of his papacy through the lens of Villanova’s Augustinian Catholic tradition, with a focus on pastoral leadership, prophetic witness and engagement with the global Church.
Faith Yost ’27 CLAS Named 2026 Goldwater Scholar
Faith Yost ’27 CLAS, a Biology major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, has been named a 2026 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation. The Goldwater Foundation’s scholarship, awarded annually to sophomores and juniors, is considered the preeminent award for undergraduate students preparing for research careers in the sciences, mathematics or engineering.
