A PAPAL CONNECTION
On Thursday, May 8, 2025, Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, OSA, '77 CLAS, was elected the 267th pope. Now known to the world as Pope Leo XIV, he is not only the first pope from the United States, but also a fellow Augustinian and Villanovan. Across the University, our institutes, centers, programs and scholars are contributing meaningfully to conversations about Pope Leo XIV, the papacy and the future of the Catholic Church.

On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Villanova University’s 183rd Commencement, the Class of 2026 received a special message from another Villanova alumnus, Pope Leo XIV.
The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hosts 15th Annual Pitch Day
Villanova University’s Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship hosted its 15th annual Pitch Day. Held annually, Pitch Day gives undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial spirit by pitching an idea for a new business, from the ground up.
Villanova University Earns Grant Funding to Foster Synodality, Shape Catholic Leaders
Villanova University is joining 15 other Catholic colleges and universities in a collaborative effort to strengthen listening, dialogue and discernment within the Church. The endeavor, called the Catholic Education Network to Enact and Resource Synodality (CENTERS), is supported by a $10 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. through its Pathways for Tomorrow Initiative.
Villanova University and the University of Notre Dame will meet in Rome, Italy, in November 2026 for a unique celebration of the institutions’ shared Catholic missions and heritage. The jointly hosted event will feature a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader, along with special programming that brings together academics, athletics and spirituality.
Villanova University Cabrini Campus Opening in 2026
Villanova University’s new 112-acre Cabrini Campus will open in August 2026, providing the opportunity for the University to enhance its programs and commitment to advancing Catholic higher education. This addition will support all aspects of campus life, providing a space that nurtures a true living and learning experience in Villanova’s Augustinian Catholic tradition.
