One hundred fifty years after Alexander Graham Bell’s first telephone transmission, Mojtaba Vaezi, PhD, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, reflects on how that simple moment launched a communications revolution. From wired voice calls to today’s wireless networks connecting billions of devices, Dr. Vaezi studies how emerging technologies—from machine-to-machine communication to future 6G networks—will shape the next era of connectivity.
Villanova University has announced the appointment of the Rev. Bernard C. Scianna, OSA, PhD, ’87, as Vice President for Mission and Ministry, effective June 1, 2026. In this role, Father Scianna will oversee the University’s Office for Mission and Ministry, which plays a vital role in ensuring Villanova’s commitment to living out its Augustinian Catholic mission in every aspect of University life.

Villanova University’s new 112-acre Cabrini Campus will open in August 2026, providing the opportunity for the University to enhance its programs and commitment to advancing Catholic higher education. This addition will support all aspects of campus life, providing a space that nurtures a true living and learning experience in Villanova’s Augustinian Catholic tradition.
